Road to Growth Nigeria –
blended training course

Road to Growth is a collaborative venture developed in partnership between the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women and the ExxonMobil Foundation, designed to build the business skills and financial literacy of women entrepreneurs.

About the Road to Growth online training course

In 2020-2021 the Road to Growth course will be available to 250 women in Nigeria who have completed a learning course on the HerVenture mobile learning app. More information about the Her Venture app is available here and the Road to Growth programme here.

The online training course uses a custom-built ‘Road to Growth’ curriculum, which is structured around seven key themes:

  • CONNECTIONDeveloping a vision for your business and identifying steps to achieve it.
  • CONTEXT: Knowing your market, understanding business positioning.
  • CAPACITY: Analysing financial statements and improving profitability.
  • CAPITAL: Developing a financing strategy that supports the growth plan for your business.
  • CHARACTER: Managing financial relationships, knowing your rights and responsibilities.
  • CONFIDENCE: Building the confidence to apply for financing.
  • COMMUNICATION: Using digital marketing and e-commerce for business.

Road to Growth’s unique curriculum

BUSINESS AND FINANCIAL SKILLS
Is tailored to business development and financial literacy needs of women owners of small and growing businesses.

NETWORKS
Equips women entrepreneurs with knowledge and skills to access capital and provides connections to financial institutions and peer entrepreneurs.

LEARNING JOURNEY
Offers a step-by-step “learning journey” towards increased confidence and capacities to succeed in business.

Documented impact

Road to Growth was successfully piloted with 500 women business owners in Nigeria in 2015-16. It subsequently reached nearly 700 women entrepreneurs in Mexico in 2018 and 2019, and a further 800 women entrepreneurs in Nigeria in 2019.
